For those wondering, yes, this was mildly inspired by the ‘Raccoon Whisperer’, that crazy dude in Nova Scotia who feeds a million raccoons. You can watch HERE. But as Daphne notes in panel three, I wouldn’t recommend that you emulate him.
I am aware that my raccoons aren’t really great depictions. I find them hard to draw. Their shape is so fluffy and puffy that I struggle with it, and their faces have an odd shape that is just close enough to a dog’s face or a fox’s face to tempt me to head in that direction. Whatever. I decided to keep on model with the previous (largely inaccurate) raccoon that Phoebe met in the woods, just for consistency’s sake. If you’re ever wondering why the comic doesn’t have a cute, cuddly pet in the cast (a standard feature of many newspaper comics), this is why: I’m not very good at drawing animals.
Looks like someone is in need of a bath and/or shower when all of this is over.
And maybe shots.
Mange, parvo and distemper.
Well that explains why Daphne is so anti-racccoon.
Daph shouldn’t really have any problems if her shots are up to date.
Don’t know that Pheebs would have any problems either, these and the ravens are her crew. (as well as whoever she communes with next, Carp? Flutterbyes?

And some antibiotics. Raccoon roundworm is a parasite and really nasty. It can (and does) infect the brain in humans and is often fatal.
That ain’t good.
Don’t worry.
You can only die from brain parasites once.

… You clearly have researched this. Phoebe’s behaviour has become noticeably odd (though we’ve been attributing that to stress).
Will she be ending up in the hospital with Raccoon Roundworm parasites in her brain, before this arc is over?
No infections. Raccoon roundworm just ain’t funny. So I think I’ll avoid it.
Rats might be next.

Low maintainence, hypoallergenic, wont run off, wont crap in your shoes, wont eat your homework (hmm, that might be a negative)
They do multiply though and I’m not sure how you get one neutered.

Honestly, I thought Puck already had a pet… a cute little abandoned pup of unknown pedigre that grew up to be a wise-ass teenager.

meh, she´s the spawn of satan, i doubt some measly mortal viruses can harm her….still, luring racoons isn´t a good idea, they´ll end up raiding everyone´s trashcans and scatter whats in them across the yards. which is gross even by crackistan standards, and will atract rats…..which phoebe likely consider cute as well. i´m sensing an infernal spiral of doom here!
When raccoons learn where the food comes from, they certainly don’t unlearn it. Always a bad idea.
Your raccoon drawing aren’t bad. Far from perfect, but raccoon faces are oddly shaped. Adorable, but odd.
I’m getting “dog” vibes off the snouts of them. Especially the one eating from over her shoulder. (I’ve seen dogs eat many dogs)
I’m defaulting to dog, certainly. Or fox.
Yeah, they have a very wide, flat face, but ALSO they have very thin, long snouts. It’s a quite dramatic shape.
“Uncooked hot dogs” — actually, most packaged hot dogs are precooked when you buy them.
Well, they’re unheated. I didn’t know how to phrase it. The first draft had the phrase ‘raw hot dogs’ but that’s even more wrong.
I wouldn’t worry about it; it’s Phoebe’s error, not yours.

I think we all understood the meaning.
Besides, even pre-cooked hot dogs are a bit underdone for human consumption, so “uncooked” can still apply.
Maybe it’s an odd dialect, like when folks say “unthawed” in reference to defrosted. (Just because the dial is wrong doesn’t mean you have to be).
Just don’t put an animal companion in the strip then do to it what Tailsteak (Mason Williams) did to Pinball the hedgehog in Leftover Soup.

Oooo… you are at #689 over at webtoons, just starting this arc. A little over 50 away from this weeks comic. Feels like it should be closer than that, but this has been a “slow-burn” story. For what ever strange reason, I am anticipating when they match. Or is it like those infinite math graphs where you approach zero, but never get there?

She should be concerned about scratches too (even unintentional ones if they’re friendly). Their claws are sharp, but also filthy with bacteria. The cut or scratch would likely begin to become infected almost immediately.
Although I DO appreciate the irony of the Devil’s daughter doing a Disney-esque Snow White/Sleeping Beauty bit with the local animals.
So much to be concerned by. Hand-washing really won’t cut it.
Since Phoebe’s got her hands on raw meat, shouldn’t she wash her hands anyway? Or maybe as only half human she doesn’t have to worry about all that. :p
